Minecraft, one of the most popular games in the world, has gained immense popularity around the world in a short period of time. The popular game has so far gathered a large fan base on various platforms such as consoles, computers, smartphones and even in the virtual reality world.
However, according to information from Mojang, the end of the road for virtual reality support will come very soon. The company plans to end Minecraft’s VR support. Here are the details…
VR version of Minecraft to be discontinued in 2025
Last month, Mojang announced that players would receive the game’s final update on PlayStation VR in March 2025. Now, a patch note for the latest release of the Bedrock version of the game confirms that the company will no longer support VR devices.
The note emphasises that this change will come in 2025 and that the devices in question will no longer be truly compatible: ‘Our ability to support VR/MR devices has ended and will no longer support updates after March 2025.’
However, the Minecraft developer explains that those who enjoy the game through virtual reality will be able to build their worlds as normal and keep Marketplace items on non-VR/MR graphics devices such as a computer monitor.
The good news, however, is that while gamers will no longer be able to use virtual reality glasses in Minecraft from March 2025, they will finally be able to enjoy a native version for PlayStation 5. The game will now support 4K and 60 FPS.
